He looks at music mathematically, from a point of view I can’t relate to… and he feels the need to push the complexity of his music beyond his current comprehension… like he’s reaching a new level of studying. Like he’s trying to learn Spanish or some other foreign language. He listens to music the way I study. He says that it’s more satisfying in the end. Is it? I mean I suppose it adds up to why he is such a good musician. He certainly understands music on a different level - but he’s separated himself in the process. When he sits there and talks to me about all the moods and levels songs go through I feel like a dog. I just want to cock my head to the side and perk my ears up. He’s expanding his comprehension, but where is the enjoyment? Maybe it’s because I am a person more of emotions. I want to feel the music… I don’t want to break it down and put it back together the way he does to find it’s worth.
